Message: Certainly could be fluid level/condition or a partially clogged tranny filter. (The dealer charges roughly $160.00 to do fluid and filter) You could get a free performance check at an honest tranny repair shop. If they tell you it's more than fluid, get a second opinion but don't let them drop it for a thorough check because that will cost $$. My '00 R/T transmission torque converter came apart and took out stuff downstream. Big-time bummer and $1,900!! Now that I'm over the shock, the performance is better than new. Mine had approx. 86,000 miles when it died. You really ought to expect mechanical problems right? Nothing lasts forever. Good luck.

Message: Reading around...I've seen other posts on it here.
Sensor gets touchy and will vary the output voltage which makes the tranny shift constantly due to it thinking you are pressing and releasing the pedal.

Message: I'm having the same problem, tach bouncing up and down at highway speeds, and I'm worried sick I'm going to have to pay for a new tranny. Is there a test the stealership could do to check for the TPS problem?

Message: After I bought my R/T I had problems with the tranny lock/unlock/lock. Still under the 30 day warrentee I took it back to the dealer and they said it was good. They changed the ATF and Filter but no difference. Finally the warentee went out and I bought the TPS for $31.00, and as I replaced it I looked at the ould one and found hairline cracks in it. It solved the problem.

Message: One more thing, I've heard that Dodge does have a problem with the trannys. Recommend that the fluid be changed every 60K and I've heard the highest recommendations on using AMSOIL's ATF. Otherwise use nothing lower that ATF 3, and preferably ATF 4 if you can find it. The Tranny works the best with ATF 4, which is fully synthetic.

Message: I have a 01 QC 4.7 that is having the same problem. I just changed the (2) filters and ATF type 4 synthetic fluid ($5.00/ qt) and the problem is still there. For $31 it's worth a shot to change the TPS.

Message: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! use nothing less than ATF+4 . anything lower and you will have tranny prob. seen many daks use +3 and talked about the tranny acting up. dumped it and put +4 and everything cleared up. dodge even says with trannys that calls for +3 to use +4 now.

Message: I was driving home from a trip saturday and my 2001 4.7 auto transmission started doing the same thing. On the freeway at a steady speed the transmission seems to go out of lockup the tack goes up and down around 300 rpm's.If you drive at a steady speed of around 40 mph it does not have the problem.I too suspected the TPS, I tested with an ohm meter and it seems ok.If you excelerate up a hill the truck runs fine.Anyone else have any ideas..

Message: That's exactly what mine did. I would drive it about 30 minute before it would start acting up. The SO CALLED Techs told me it was fine, but when I took it out and looked at it I could see little cracks in what looks like porclain. A new TPS costs about $31.00, but check around to see who has it in stock. The cheapest one I found was Advance Auto, but they were in back order.

Message: For those wondering about tranny fluid, I had a full transmission flush done with AMSOIL Universal ATF and it shifts as smooth as silk now. It used to slip horribly between gears every now and then (truck only has 27k miles). Also had the transfer case fluid changed with the same fluid, and it is wonderful now. Make SURE you get a transmission FLUSH and not a pan change. Need to get all that old crap out of the torque converter and the rest of the system.
Just my .02.

Message: I replaced my TPS about a week ago, and I'm 99% sure it fixed the problem. My truck seamed to have the problem more on warm days, and we haven't had too many of them lately here in New England, but it has been incident free. The bad news is I purchased the TPs from the dealer, it cost me $80. According to AllData it was supposed to be $43, all the manuf. are raising part costs to cover poor car sales.
