Subject: trans IP: Logged
Message: i have a 3.9 mag in my 1996 dakota, i want to which it with a 318, what would be a good auto trans. to put with it. also, is the 8.25 rearend strong enough for it. do i need a new radiator for it to?

Message: the 8.25 is a great rear end and will hold up well. the trans should hold just go easy on it. the radiator is hard to say with out looking at it but may be big enough as well. good luck with the swap!!
and some mods to slow it down!

Message: if your transless than i know the 44re is a good one for i have 150k on mine. i think the 45re and the 46re will work but i know the 46re was design for the 5.9

Message: The 46RE will work, and is larger, giving more clutch area, but fits into the same area as the smaller 42/44. Bolts right up to the 318.
