Mr. Snake Oil,
I was wondering how long before I was "flamed' (which happens so often on this site).
Feel free to try and prove me wrong.
For 32 years ... Amsoil has made the following statement ...
AMSOIL developed the first synthetic motor oil to pass American Petroleum Institute (API) service requirements in 1972, and was the first company to market synthetic oils for passenger vehicles.
Amsoil has NEVER been the subject of FTC investigations, fines, etc., and no other major oil company can make that statement. If Amsoil's comments were false, Amsoil would have been issued a Cease and Desist letter.

P.S. ---- This post was NOT cut-and-paste ... however, if a question is asked that I have the answer to in another file ( or from another source such as Amsoil Literature ) ... I have the right to use it at any time. I am NOT here to recreate the world ... only to share information with everyone so that perhaps Amsoil will be their synthetic lubricant of choice.

Message: So what your saying is that you have no proof. Show me documentation from the American Petroleum Institute. I dont care what "statement" Amsoil has been making. Hell.. Mobil-1 makes a "statement" that they are "The oil thats changing oil".... does that mean they are right?

Message: I found all that information on their corporate website along with links to third part articles on their products. This includes interviews, testing, etc.
Their API testing of their motor oils is particularly interesting: http://www.amsoil.com/performancetests/g1971/index.aspx (Sorry, but I don't know how to put in a clickable url)
If their saying that AMSOIL developed the first synthetic motor oil to pass American Petroleum Institute (API) service requirements in 1972, and was the first company to market synthetic oils for passenger vehicles, then it would have to be the truth; otherwise, they would not be able to use that statement in their business and they would be sued by every Tom, Dick, and Harry out there for "misleading statements" and whatnot.
They would also have the Better Business Bureau on their backs and have a rating of a dustmite. I checked the BBB postings on various AMSOIL dealers and the general company profile. All are amiable.

Message: For what it's worth, I started researching AMZOIL(This is the way it was spelled originally!)and I had managed to acquire the official 1972 AMZOIL API oil testing results on the AMZOIL SAE 10/30 100% Synthetic oil. Therefore, I can vouch for the fact, that it is definately true, that AMZOIL was the first sythetic oil to undergoe and to pass the API oil testing! Mobil 1 wasn't even in the picture until around 1974-75!

Message: Not knocking Amsoil, I'm sure it's a good product, but ad copy is just that-made to make one's product look as good as possible.
Notice Amsoil was the first to pass the API's tests. As said before, it was the first to be submitted. Note in an earlier post Mobil's synthetic was created in the late 50s, it just didn't get submitted to the API.
IIRC Motorcycle Consumer News has done a lot of independant oil testing, but I don't remember if Amsoil was included in same. Check their website, they may have it archived.

I LEARNED THE TRUTH ABOUT API
All vehicle manufacturers in the U.S. have agreed that a warranty cannot be denied because a customer was using any particular brand of oil that meets specifications, unless an engine failure was directly attributable to the fluid. If it is not a fluid related failure, they cannot void the warranty. The law supports this position.
Plus, the dealer/manufacturer has no way of telling what fluid you are using. How do I know? I am a former aircraft technician. I too was sceptical in the beginning. But now I am a believer.
Amsoil meets and exceeds API specs.
USE AMSOIL WITH CONFIDENCE!!!!!!!!!

Amsoil has gone to Group III (hydrocracked dyno) in only their XL7500 motor oil which continues to have a 7500 mile drain interval. Their other oils (Amsoil Original Synthetic, Series 2000, Series 3000) all remain true synthetic PAO based with ability to go to extended drain intervals.
