Subject: R/T trans. problems...HELP!!! IP: Logged
Message: Okay, here goes...2000 CC R/T, lost 2nd gear at 54k miles. $1600.00 to rebuild tranny and now, less than 8 MONTHS LATER and less than 9000 miles on the rebuild 2nd gear is gone again. Back at the shop the guy said the warranty was expired but he'd split the cost with me and he'd look around for some "Heavy Duty" parts to use this time. WTF...I've never had these problems with a tranny before, This truck is babied more than anything. My wife uses it for her and the kids, although I do take it out when I can. Any advice? If I've got to rebuild ever year this truck's goin to the crusher.

do you ever down shift it into second while moving? it could be the way it was rebuilt? make sure you put the mopar trannys fluid in the trannys. check trannys fluid monthly to make sure it's were it should be. heavy duty is good but it has to be put together correctly. i no a trannys guy that is located in Valencia CA name of shop is HP Transmission and he fix this problem on my friends R/T and he did this for $600 including a shift kit.
if its prone to breaking than drive it hard and don't baby it that's what i do and i have a 152000m on my trannys with no rebuild.
and some mods to slow it down!

didn't you get at least a 1yr/12000 mile warranty?!?!? I say the guy isn't willing to stand behind his product/service. Take it to somebody who knows what they are doing and works mostly with Chrysler products. And make sure you get a better warranty this time!

Message: Before I'd shell that kind of $ to a local that could only manage 8K miles, I'd go for this:
http://www.transmissioncenter.net/dodge.htm...or something on that level of professional work.
In fact, I just did. It'll be here in about a week. It seems, from what I've read, there are a lot of fellows out there that throw the overdrive units together just like they would the earlier 904/727 Torqueflites, and that's where the problem starts. They share quite a few parts, but you can't just slap one together and get good results. Sounds like that's what you're getting from that dude.

Message: Agreed with gen1. I know a guy that will garantee any tranny for 3-36. He's been in business for about a hundred years it seems. And has the best reputation around here.
Good example of his work is my dad's work transportation. '92 Pontiac grand am. Stock tranny went at 90K his rebuild has carried it to 240K
