Message: I have a 2001 5.9 Quad and I have developed a very strange noise under the hood from the front of the engine. After climbing under the truck I noticed that the bottom-most pulley on the engine is out of balance and the source of the noise. Any suggestions and can I fix it myself, I haven't had to rely on garage yet and am in the process of expanding my tool collection as I go. I still love the truck, it just keeps me busy.

Message: i don't think there is a fix other than to just replace?
i think it's time you up grade to some under drive pulleys. if that drive belt snaps than you are in for some trouble and some cash to fix all the stuff it destroys.
if its still warranty than take it in a have them replace it.
and some mods to slow it down!

Message: Going with this being a problem just showing up then it looks to be something has happened to the pully for sure > I'd first remove the belts and with belt preasure removed see if you can wiggle the wheel by hand > This is mostly just looking for what happened > but it really don't matter > It has to be changed anyway > Be sure to check the key for wear should the wheel be lose > Think I'd try for a wrecking yard replacement first rather then new > They seldom are bad so it's a good idea and saves money > I'm cheap lol > Good luck

Message: Ummm, guys that kind of sounds like he's describing the harmonic balancer. If so, he could wind up with front main bearing damage if its driven. Defanatly a replace with new part only repair in my book.
However if it is the pulley, thats a junkyard part repair. But I haven't seen pulley damage without contact with something.

Message: My 5.9 R/T had the same thing. I thought the shop was pullin' one over on me when I took it in for a leaky front crank oil seal. They said the balancer look warped and was wobbling around and eventually caused the oil seal to fail. I did have them replace it.

Message: GOOD LUCK ! The dealer just broke it off in me for the cost of two new O2 sensors. 236.66 for just the part, no labor.
