Subject: Throwout bearing issue.
IP: Logged

Message:
So I think my throwout bearing is dying on me. There is a rattle that gets louder not faster the faster I go. I can "feel" the rattle in the stick when I am driving and before all this happened it was a pain taking it out of gear and putting it in gear. So that is why I think it is the throwout bearing. My question is how hard is it to replace or should I have the dealer do it?
Thanks

Throwout bearings make noise when you push the cluch in, not when driving with cluch out Throwout bearings don't make it hard to shift > 2 things come to mind > A really bad front transmission bearing maybe > Must likely it's your sinkrows (spelling) in the trany >

I'm thinking you should only hear the bearing or feel wny issues with it is when you have the clutch pressed. When it is out (pedal at rest) the bearing has no load.

If the problem manifests during shifting only, then it could be the TO bearing.

To replace it the tranny must be removed. Before that can happen, the exhaust pipes that go underneath it must be removed. It's quite an involved job.

If you have the tools, jacks, etc. and have the know-how, and this doesn't scare you go ahead. If it does, then pay to have it done by your trusted mechanic.

May I lend a sugesstion? Dont use the OEM dodge crapwads. My throwout has been whining, and lately started the dreaded "death scream" The stock plate has had a partal disengagement problem from day one.
I'm going to opt out and get a Centerforce clutch kit. Much more quality than the stock replacement.
I've got some brutal experience with one in a 340 Duster. They are worth the extra $$$
