Hello everyone. Well, to start off, I just purchased a 2000 Dak Ext Cab SLT trim 4x4 w/ the 4.7L V8. Has 25,300 miles on it (was hardly ever driven). I've been wondering, when it is time, what spark plug brands work best in these engines? I realize this is a loaded question, but I'm not quite sure which is better. I noticed "E3 Spark Plugs" and they look interesting, but I'm paranoid that it is going to burn up a valve or something (like the Spitfires used to). Looks like a drastically different design though and they say they'll work great. Soo.. any suggestions out there? Thanks.

Spark plugs don't burn up valves > And pick your poison on brand but please do stick with conventional plugs > You can spend bunches on super duper tons of HP over advertised plugs and one thing for certain > They can do no more then light the gas in the combustion chamber one time each time it fires > Any body tells you they put them in and can tell a differance it is only because the plugs they removed was past service life > Personal preferance, I use champion truck plugs > Take your pick > Injoy the ride > Got a feeling your going to get blasted with differant opinions > Pay attention and desifer why there plugs are best > If by chance you have spark knock with the factory plugs, drop one heat rang > Seems to help some >

Thanks for the tip OBIO3. Anything other than conventional plugs makes me a little bit leery, but the "guaranteed" additional HP and MPG does sound very tempting. My question is.. at what cost will it be? Shortened engine life? I don't really know. Like you said, there are different opinions and even more speculations. Eh, may just get conventional plugs this time so I don't flush money down the toilet. Thanks.

Don't you think that if there was a magical spark plug out there, that made more power, every race car owner in the country would be using it?

Hey Jpkomm I have the same Dak as You Yr/Ect and went through the same dilema. I crossed out any Platinum plugs I might have wanted because I remember seeing, (either in my manual or Repair book) that stated, DO not use platinum plugs with your dakota. this web site helped me pick a few choices and I researched them.

http://sparkplugs.com/default.asp

Just pic something cheap and change them often. Alot of people here like autolites for $0.99 I perfer champion U may also want to consider Bosch usually for around $0.99 at pepboys as well.
