Subject: 2002 4.7L "Stage-IV" Conversion
IP: Logged

Message:
We will be installing a "Stage-IV" kit tomorrow. Here are the preliminary dyno test figures:

2002 Dodge Dakota QC 4.7L Automatic 2WD (100% Bone Stock - No Modifications)

HP: 189.51 @ 4400rpm
TQ: 248.86 @ 3300rpm

05/01/02 - 6:00pm (91 degrees F / 49% humidity)

We're going to try to get about 200-250 miles on the truck (with the new mods) and will then re-test on the dyno.

We had to opt for a MagnaFlow (Stainless) exhaust as the 2002 model exhaust systems aren't available yet.

It's coming along nicely. Ran into a few delays with the wastegates, but otherwise...will be done well before the R/T Nats.

5.2/5.9L = Twin system
4.7L = Single system

What -if any- is the price difference between the price between the Stage IV kit and buying all the components individually? I already have everything on the list done but headers and the crank pulley. How much for the pulley? I don't see it for sale anywhere on the site but the kit. Me want. Me buy? yep.. gimmie info and i buy. today. yup yup.

Hey Berd,
what are we talking here as far as $$$ if I were to buy the turbo kit from ya and you install it, (your shop will install it won't they?)

Also I'm very strict with maintaining my truck,
540 miles = oil change reg oil
2,976 miles = oil change reg oil
5,922 miles = oil change synt oil & tire rotation
8,500 miles = oil change synt oil

what kind of boost and hp could I expect
do you have any kind of warranty as far as the turbo or the engine.

Do a search for turbos, there is a pretty good sized one called "Why no twin turbos for 4.7L" or something that I started, it has a bunch of awesome info in it!

The expected costs they WANT is like 3500, but that doesn't mean it can't go up or down -- perfectly understandable.

Oil changing is about one of THE most important things you do to maintain your turbo. I'm talkin' like 2000-2500 mile intervals, synthetic preferred. Obviously, you already do this quite well, but I don't see what being meticulous with maintenance and a turbo have in common.

Good news and Bad news on the kit:

Good News: JBA Headers and Thermostat installed, TPS modified to .75v.

Bad News: We had to remove the throttle body and intake for now as the resonance from the plenum was causing too much vibration in the throttle. We tried quite a few different approaches but couldn't get rid of the vibration (pretty bad at 72-75mph). This isn't a common problem but inherent to the 4.7L manifold. Dodge uses two resonance chambers in the factory airbox (the one on the throttle body) which gets rid of the vibration. We will be working on a resonance chamber for the Intense Performance Z-Tube in the upcoming weeks to "tune" it to the 4.7L and will try the install again at the customers leisure. (We have access to a local 4.7L truck for testing to verify that the new chamber for the intake is tuned properly.) - No dyno run performed as we didn't have enough miles on the vehicle for a good "learn cycle". The underdrive pulley was shipped to us from the manufacturer but didn't arrive in time and couldn't install it either. (Murphy's law came into play during this installation which caused an installation problem on the custom exhaust as well...local muffler shop used our stainless pipe on a different vehicle...although we had the pipe and timeframe reserved 5 days in advance. We couldn't get any other stainless pipe until next Monday...too late as the customer had to leave today - Saturday.)
