Would it be possible/legal to run an aftermarket muffler on a 2001 4.7 V8 with the stock size pipes in and a 3" pipe out? When you flow air from a smaller size to a larger it creates vacuum which would suck the exhaust out, which i think would preform better having a very free flowing exhaust. I woke up in the middle of the night with this one. Please let me know if this theory would work.

The 4.7 relies on back pressure to achive maximum torque. Increasing the size will not give you better performance.
