Message: I was wondering what is going on with my truck and thought someone here has probably had the same and resolved it.
What I notice is when the truck is warm (maybe cold too not sure) it idles fine for awhile but the at times it idles way down and then revs back up and then normal for awhile and repeats.
Has anyone else had this happen and what is a solution for this? Is this possibly a clogged sensor or something? I have replaced the air filter along with new plugs/wires/dist cap. I have also ran seafoam through the air intake to clean injectors as well as stp and marvel mystery oil through the tank (trying to release my stuck check valve).
thanks

Message: Couple things to check for - blown intake plenum gasket. Very common on the V8s. If you see a lot of oil at the bottom of the intake when you look down the throttle body bores, you have ablown gasket. If it has never been replaced on a 96 I can almost guarantee it is bad. Also, check or replace the PCV valve and crank breather filter located on the valve covers. Pull the IAC motor control sensor from the TB, it might be gunked up. You can clean it with carb cleaner and reinstall.
That should be a good start.

Message: OK I don't think it is the gasket as the motor is pretty clean.
As for your statement of:
PCV valve and crank breather filter located on the valve covers. Pull the IAC motor control sensor from the TB
Your talking over my head. I am not afraid to do the work but need to understand what your looking at. The PCV valve and breather filter are where (on the valve cover? the breather filter is the 90* elbow one right?)what does the PCV valve look like?
What does the IAC motor control sensor look like?

Message: PCV valve should be on the pass side of the engine. 90 degree elbow with a hose attached to it. They need to be changed every couple years or so, depending on how much driving is done. A couple bucks at your local parts store. Crank breather filter is on the other side, also with a hose attached. I think you can get them at an auto parts store, if not the dealer does stock them.
The IAC is a sensor on the throttle body. Pull the air hat off the top of the throttle body. You will see 3 sensors. The one on the front is the MAP sensor, has a little elbow hose connecting to a port on the TB. The one on the side is the TPS sensor, for throttle position sensor. Finally the one on the rear is the IAC. Disconnect the wiring harness, unscrew the 2 screws and take a look at it. The sensor may be pretty dirty, and the passage in the TB may also be dirty. If so disconnect the other sensors and throttle cables from the TB, remove the for bolts holding it to the intake manifold, remove the remaining sensors, and clean it with carb cleaner.

Message: Thanks I will give these ideas a try. I wouldn't guess the filter would be to much either. Thanks.
