my friend and i are going to race and we both think it will be close. the mustang is a 97 stick and is stock. my truck 318 cc intake muffler. who will win????

97 is a 4.6 and it is rated at 225HP.. the last 5.0 was 95 and it would smoke you.
You have a better chance against the 4.6 as long as it's not a cobra dohc4.6 which is 305hp.
I am gonna give it to the stang just because your HP/TQ numbers are pretty close but you are weighing at around 500lbs. heavier.

alright we raced and it has a 5.0 so its not 97 i was guessing the year.
the first race i won by 2 truck lengths. my friend doesn't know how to drive a stick.
so my other friend drove.
i had him of the line for lack of traction but he didn't catch me till 40mph and than we ran side by side until 60mph when i shifted he began to pull away. but in the end he beat me by .30 sec not to bad for a heavy ass truck that has just 10 more hp.
which engine is better for preformance the 4.6 or 5.0? we have the 4.6 in the explorer and it would give my truck a ran for its money.

The new 4.6's would smoke the old 5.0's (stock vs. stock.) I think the new v6 mustang would give the 5.0's a run for their money.

a new v6 stang will probably smoke a old 92ish 5.0L. those v6's are rated at like 200+hp

He beat me with my current mods after 78-80 mph. I got the low-end he has the low-end/high end
Pretty badass IMO just a couple of bolt-ons and they are quick as sh1t. But for the old 5.0s dont make me laugh...hehe

race another mustang and this one was a 91 5.0. roll on from 50mph stay even to 60mph than he pulled away, as he should.

3.92 is a factory gear available for the 9.25
there is a 3.90 aftermarket set available for the 8.25", which mike has.
and my 89 dakota has 3.90 gears from the factory.

Sorry ToolFan, yup 3.90 gears and 8 1/4" rear-end.
Still a decent rear but will have to upgrade when i dip into the 13s with a small stall...kinda afraid of the consequences of the 8.25"

they have 3.91 Richmond Gear sets for about $289 (more expensive then some)
also have 3.90 Superior Axle Gear sets for about $229.
www.4wheelparts.com also carries Motive gear which is a little bit cheaper. I bought a set of 4.10's from them for $150 i believe.
