Subject: 5 lug conversion? IP: Logged
Message: Just bought a 94 dakota and was wondering if any of you guys have done a 5 lug conversion? Does someplace sell a kit or do you have to go to a junk yard? Also I seen a place that sell's Billet adaptors, anybody use these? I just haven't seen many wheels in a 6 lug that I really cars for so I thought about doing this.

Message: Yeah, thats what I was thinking on those billet adaptors too. Didn't know how they would do in the in daily use or not. Plus those things are fairly expensive if the prices I seen were each($89-$100).I'd rather have a kit or factory stuff.

Message: Not hard at all on a '94 unless you have 4-wheel abs. Here's a link to a write-up when I did mine:
http://www.bionicdodge.com/8_3_4_gen_ii_dakota.htm
That was for an 8 3/4 swap but should still be helpful. If you want to change the rears without doing an 8 3/4 swap, just get a set of axles for an '87 to '90 Dakota and have them swapped in along with drums, etc. for those years.

Message: the axleshafts are interchangable, so you wont have to change out the axle housings, jsut change out the axle shafts
my mechanic changed the cv shaft and everything for like $90, so that plus the cost of a shaft, jnot sure about the rear though

Message: b1llyw: I see that you have the bionic dodge for sale up on ebay. That is a very nice truck. You must have put a lot of time and money into that. Did you just paint it in your own garage? That paint looks very good for a no paintbooth job.

Message: Actually, I sold it a year ago. The guy who bought it has kept in perfect and he went out and won a few more trophies. That is a pro paint job. TK's Custom Auto in New London, CT. They do awesome work.

Message: I see. I just looked like from your website that is was a home garage job, and that would be an impressive paint job for that. Did you ever run that truck in the 1/4 mile?

Message: Ok. I have a 92 Dakota. I bought a set of 22 inch wheels and tires but there 5 lug, mines 6, it was a hell of a deal to pass up, but I looked at adapters and a set would run Me up to 500 bucks plus there 2 inches thick so I would lose space. (my truck is slammed frame sits maybe 4 inches off the ground) so I would have to do a lot more tubbing then I originsly planned. Another option would be finding the axle or a 5 lug kota and the front spindles and all that off a 5 lug Dakota. Pretty much I'm tryin to find the cheapest way to convert it but also safe. Please help
