ok so anyways now that you have proved my first statement about you true, you can stop whining and ill go on helping JakeR/T out

jake- the thermostat sits on top of your intake manifold in the front, under the thermostat housing. you can follow the top radiator hose to the manifold to find where it meets the manifold...

run the motor up to temperature, then drain coolant out of the system until there is no more in the top hose. the easiest way is through the drain cock at the bottom driver side of the radiator (it has a knob you turn to allow the coolant to escape). - close the draincock

after the top hose is empty, you can take the thermostat housing off by the two bolts holding it onto the intake manifold, and lift the housing off to reveal the thermostat.

note - you may uninstall a few things to give you some more room to get the housing out of the way, but it can be done without removing anything else.

pull the old thermostat out and cover up the hole in the intake manifold so you dont drop anything into it.

clean the bottom of the housing and make sure you scrape all of the old gasket off of it to ensure good seal when you torque it back down.

pull off whatever you were covering the hole with, and install the new thermostat with the spring side facing down.

install new gasket (you may have to trim it to the shape of the housing), then install the housing ontop of the gasket.

torque the bolts back down and refill the coolant system.

let the truck run for 10 or 15 minutes, check for leaks around the housing and make sure the draincock is completely closed, check the temp gauge.

ok you're done

goodle, first of all I haven't proven you right you pinhead, I'm right and you're a serious punk a$$hole. You kids don't show anyone respect but you demand respect for yourselves, grow up first.
Second, it's 'Jake Rt' not 'Jake R/T' you moron.
Third, why do you keep insisting on changing the thermostat on a hot engine? What, do you think a thermostat can't be changed on an engine unless the coolant is scalding hot?
If you're going to help someone, you might want to give them the procedure without adding any unnecessary steps like running the engine up to operating temperature, unless you're trying to help Jake burn himself.
How was that? Disrespectful like you like it? Good!

Rob C, just stop posting. you're the child in this situation, i can tell by how immature you act that your no older than 19. nobody is backing you up because nobody likes a know-it-all teenage punk that doesnt know what he's talking about. the reason it is NECESSARY to run the engine up to tempurature is so the thermostat will open, so when you drain coolant out of the bottom of the radiator, the coolant in the upper hose will drain out instead of stay in the hose. if you drain the coolant out of the radiator when the thermostat is closed (truck not up to tempurature), it will stay in the upper hose, then when you loosen the housing bolts, coolant will leak out all over the engine. once again, this is for a 360 engine, not a 4.7. Jake if you have anymore questions i would be more than happy to answer them.

Damn if it wasn't for the constant reminder of mopar motor sizing I would have sworn I ended up on a faggy Ford or Bowtie site. There is no reason for name calling just state your point and be done with it who cares who knows more. Because after all we all know that I know the most. JUst kidding how bout we all just lighten up on a very simple question in the end its just a matter of preferance.

Never do the thermostat on a hot engine if you can help it! ESP if you are not a seasoned mechanic, good way to get permanent burns!!!!

Drain it the easy way, either
A. Remove one the block drains - nothing but a pipe plug.
B. Pull the lower rad hose off - either the rad OR water pump it doesn't matter, rad will get more fluid out but either will work for a thermostat change.

Hope that part is clear now :)
