Message: I got a problem.... I got the Mopar perf. PCM for my truck yesterday, installed it, and was AMAZED with the performance increase.... BUT, when the truck shifts at WOT I get a horrible spark knock. I am running 93 octane fuel, so I doubt if that is the problem. I also installed an Accel super coil when I installed the computer. So, I dont know if it is the coil, or if I am going to have to drop down to a 180
t-stat to solve the problem, or if there is something else wrong (already did a tune up on the engine: plugs, wires, cap, rotor). Anybody got any ideas?

Message: try running some Seafoam through the TB to clean the combustion chambers. carbon build up will promote pre-detonation because the carbon will make the chamber hold more heat.

Message: Thanks... I picked up some sea-foam today and am going to try that right now. I also got the 180
t-stat just for good measure. Like I said, the computer is very impressive, just need to get it running so I'm not destroying my engine!

Message: I have a '98 Dakota with a 318 and spark knock was a big problem. I found a steel plenum plate bolted under the intake with the gasket sucked in.Causing a serious lean issue.Replaced the gasket with a Felpro, which had a metal core for strength and I can run 89 octane pulling a 25 foot trailer now.Found out this was common with original gaskets. Hope this helps.

Message: Well, just got back from another short trip with the new PCM... WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I put the sea-foam thru the intake as per the instructions, then followed that up with some Throttle body spray cleaner... but I had to stop because I was generating some sort of blue toxic plume that was drifting into my neighbors yard. I will find a remote location and finish cleaning the intake. I had my Tech buddy check for a leaky intake gasket, and he said that it is fine, and I think the 180 t-stat will take care of my knock. I had my doubts about the Mopar PCM (from past experiences with performance chips), but it was definately worth the money! The truck even sounds different under a load, and I can hardly keep the wheels from spinning off the line. I will update once I have the new t-stat installed and I take it for a run out on the interstate, should be fun! Thanks again for all the info!

Message: i have a 93 dakota w/ 5.2 i put the mopar pcm in and had the spark knock problem i did like u did and cleaned the intake. that seamed to help for a while but i found the main prob was the gas. use a quality fuel from a good gas station. not a little mom and pop place. since then i put the mp1 and a msd w/ timing control in. now i run 87 or whatever if a hear a little knock i just retard the timing a degree or two. the thermostat would probaly help too. i put a 180 in at the same time.

Message: I had that problem too when I got my B&G flash, but I had a cracked cylinder head at the same time so when I replaced the heads and installed new valve springs the pinging was gone
