Message: Shane,
You can install the HO Cams to gain a few more HP (about 15-18HP) as well as using either a 70mm Flometrics or Fastman 68mm modified TB. With a decent exhaust (and headers) and the rest of the small "tweaks", you can get very close to the 300HP mark without too much effort. We're also playing around with the HO Heads and HO Intake (with HO cams...about 50-60HP more).

Message: This also has to do with the fact that many of the 4.7L are underated from the factory. I am waiting to dyno mine to set a baseline before I do any mods. More accurate depiction of where my money goes. What's the deal with headers? This is my first V8 and I figured that headers were a necessity? Apparantly the output is not much greater and they are close to $600. Maybe people who buy them are expecting torque and they are actually making higher rpm horsepower. If this is so let me know, cuz stock has plenty o torque. But then again, there is no such thing as enough of anything. Except psycho women, no thanks. Sorry, rough weekend.

Message: Jeff: The 2000 models use a 65mm, the 2001+ models use a 68mm TB (4.7L).
Grady: Headers are not really required on the 4.7L unless you plan un running it a bit harder than normal (occasional strip action) or...using a larger throttle body, cold air intake, performance exhaust, custom PCM program, or are looking at either a Supercharger or Nitrous on the 4.7L.
Base HP figures may be +/-5HP but the 2002 4.7L dyno's at:
RWHP: 189.51 @ 4400rpm
RWTQ: 248.86 @ 3300rpm
Add about 22-25%% for driveline loss and you're right at the 230-240HP mark from the factory. Again, HP will be off slightly as no two engines perform the same nor are they tuned the same from the factory.

Message: I am interested in finding out if it is possible to put the 360 RT motor into 318 Dakota. My truck is a 99 Dakota Club Cab 4x4 5.2L. Is it possible to buy a new crate motor and put it in or is there more to it (as in computer swap, tramsmission issues, and so on. Michelle

Message: Im wondering if anyone is going to answer my question. Can I put a new (crate motor from Dodge) 360RT motor into my 99Dakota that came with a 318. Do I also have to put in a new computer and other items that would make this too expensive. Michelle

Message: michelle- It would depend on afew things. FIRST, how much money do you have to spend? Second, How much do you love your Dak? Are you going to run a carb on the 360 or do you want it to be injected? Are you looking at buying a long block or short block? To many variables left out to give you a good answer. Thing is (once again.) how long are you planning on keeping your truck?

Message: Yuo will need the computer and wiring harness for the 360. I am not sure but, you will also need all the induction stuff for the 360Rt as well. I do not believe the 318 stuff will wotk or work well with the 360RT. Like someone mentioned earlier in this thread. It would be easier for you to rebuild your engine and use a stroker kit. I think you would actually have a better motor than a factory RT anyhow. That is my personal opinion at least.

Message: Michelle - you're making a wrong assumption, thinking a crate motor will be turnkey. Most are aimed more toward performance use for those who will add a carb and use it in something older. You'll need to make some changes to get it to work with fuel injuection, including a PCM for a 360 for your year. They are also generally set up for v-belt accessory use, with a water pump that turns the opposite direction from the serpentine set up that you likely have in your truck now (you haven't mentioned what year your truck is).
