Subject: Cruise control jumps IP: Logged
Message: When I put my 01 Dak CC in cruise on the highway at about 70 MPH it can't seem to maintain a consistant RPM. Even when cruising on a flat highway it seems to surge then slow then surge and so on. Could there be a computer problem in the cruise? Any help would be great.
Thanks

Does your speed-o jump also. My 02 surged all the time, I installed a new pcm and it quit.
If you have less then 80K on the truck it might be warranty.

Message: Most likely a bad TPS (throttle position sensor), very common on Daks. Easy to replace yourself, takes about 2 minutes.

Message: Yup, the TPS. Mine did the same thing. I have no skills and I was able to change that one.

Message: Is the MIL (checkengine) lite on? Mine was because I had a bad PCM, which caused me to blow an emissions test. It's covered under the Federal Emissions warranty - look at your book - for 80,000 miles. The dealer just put it in, cost $ 765 plus labor but cost me zippo. It also fixed my cruise control, which wouldn't work at all prior.
If no MIL light, try finding DaveC on this site, he's rather experienced. Maybe it is the TPS.
Oh yeah, the upper ball joints on 01 Daks are under factory recall too - go in and have the dealer take the snap, crackle and pop out of your steering.
