Filter is not in the tank but you have to drop the tank to get to it. On the dak it is not a regular maintenance item. You do not need to replace it unless you think there is a problem with it. It is supposed to last the life of the truck. At least so says the "dealer."

I believe the filter is part of the fuel pump on the 4.7 just as it is on the Jeep 4.0 straight six. Not 100% sure though but as bobbovine stated, this is not a regular maint. item..not real sure why or how, but it isn't........

Just looked in a Haynes manual and it is part of the fuel pressure regulator not the fuel pump. It didn't have any pics but it appears that it sits on the top of the fuel tank. Maybe even just inside it.

There are two fuel "filters."
One is in the tank and filters the fuel before it gets to the fuel pump.
The other is part of the fuel pressure regulator. You have to replace the regulator to replace that filter.
To gain good access to either filter, the tank must be removed, or the the pickup bed must be lifted off.
I just installed a good filter in the fuel line between tank and engine.
