i have 2002 r/t rc and my truck ever since i bought it wouldnt spin the tires from a dead start. does anyones being fairly stock? now recently if i turn my truck from a dead stop hand hammer it they wont spin at all. now ive heard about this deathflask that makes the 5.9 slow through the low rpm range. i dont know if mine had this. also no spare tire with a roll pan should make the truck light enough in the back to do this? anyone had a loss of power if thats the case in a short time like me. i have also a k&n cold air intake. justgive me some info.

my 5.2 will roast them from a dead stop and its a 93 w/ 140000 miles. sounds like your r/t is slow like the rest of them

Is your truck AWD? Mine won't spin at all either just grabs and goes.
If your truck is 2WD, try superchips, it removes the torque management and adjusts shift firmness, plus the 10-20HP helps as well.

I can't stop my '01 4.7 from spinning. My wife says, quit showing off. Sheesh, I'm just barely touching the accelerator. But damn it feels so much better than the Neon I used to have. I can pass cars without asking her to get out and push LOL.
Not that the Neon was bad...but it was a 4 banger.
"note to self" THE GAS MILEAGE WAS BETTER IN THE NEON THOUGH!

Heh. That sucks. I have a '00 4.7 4x4 and if I even half step on the gas i'm laying rubber. if i really lay on it, it can put down over 75' of rubber. dunno why the r/t would suck though.

deathflash for sure my dak 5.2 has that and it "SUCKS!" superchips will take it off but for a hafty price. my truck now will spin them off the line for 30ft or so. r/t stock normal spins though 1st and 2nd.

you can go to www.dodge.com, under dakotas, under owners, and use the last 8 digits of your vin to check on recalls performed on your truck. that should tell you if you've got the "death flash".
how's the state of tune of the truck? could be a plugged cat. i've got a '00 QC w/ 3.9 5spd, 3.55 open rearand 235/75/15's and can bark the tires in third most of the time.

i checked out dodge.com nothing pulled up. but i emailed them because it said one recall was never taken care of. so the previous owner probably got something but not me. by the way the truck feels like its lost a lot of power since i got it. ive done tune ups syntec fluids even running premium fule now with fule injector cleaner. any one had a sudden drop of in power like this?

hmm something doesnt sound right with ur R/T not spinnin the tires. when my R/T was stock it would easially spin all of 1st gear and some 2nd gear. my R/T is also a 2002 reg.cab. if theres not a mechanical problem get it programmed wit ha hypertech. i put one in my truck and noticed a diffrent through the whole rpm range. with a hypertech and flowmaster muffler i ran a 14.8@93mph. i tried out some flowtech shorties and those were horrible. i now have ceramic coated Positive Performance Headers and y pipe with no cats and a air intake. any of u trash talkin 4.7 guys want some! check out my pics at http://www.dodgedakotart.com/v1/content/view/44/32/

I don't see any of the 4.7 posts on this thread trash talkin. They were just stating that they had no problem spinning the tires just by barely touching the accelerator. That doesn't equate to trash talkin.
Of course, you probably said that with tongue in cheek just to ruffle a few feathers..LOL

My 4.7 4X4 will burn em real easy. Sometimes I wish it would just hook up and go.
The 5.9 should have a butt load of tire spinning torque.
Better make sure you didn't jump a tooth on the timing chain or something. But I'd think you would have a code? Dunno. Never jumped chain on a OBDII vehicle.
Do the basics. Compression check 1st.
Then check fuel injectors, etc.

I'd rather hook-up than spin tire, but if you've lost power then you've got a problem. Since you've mentioned the fact you've done a tune-up, I think I would check for an exhaust restriction first. What is power like through the rest of the RPM range? Going up hills??

the power dosent seem to be there during low rpms. once over 2800 rpms the truck comes alive kinda. higher rpms the truck shifts funny. i have to let of the gas to shift the truck

some r/t's do that they just keep going thought the rpm range and never shift.
CHECK THE CAT!!!
i would get under the truck and see if the cat looks like it was replace. if you have 65000 to 70000 miles that cat is bad and can stop the truck in its path.

Hey I was checkin out this site, what a great forum!!
I've got a 2000 Dak 4.7L reg cab 4x4 with an auto 3.55 LSD and a western snow plow, recently I decided it was time to purchase new tires for the semi-hemi and I figured I'd have to fry the old ones just to make a bit more of a reason to clear with the girlfriend... we went out in front of my house and proceeded to burnout... (Gonna add pictures and movies here soon :) Now this truck has Gibson headers, flowmaster 40 single exhaust, and a K&N FIPK.. Oh, and a half plugged cat too... It would brake-burn with no problems at all, with the 31 inch tires, but as soon as I got past about 30 feet it would stop spinnin so much, hook up and get right at 'er.. It doesn't seem to have much bottom end jam either.. Mind you its a higher reving 4.7L with 3.55 gears.. I don't know.. I think its fantastic that it doesn't lay rubber everywhere (except around corners, and its completely useless in the rain) but maybe I'm wrong..? I can't wait to see how it responds to KRC camshafts :)
Ahh as a side note, with the TMS mod, the little beast will grab rubber in 2nd gear with the new tires..

I have an automatic and can only get my tires to spin when I stomp the gas in second gear and it downshifts to first. Is this an automatic tranny curse? Or do manuals have trouble off the line too?

That is weird. Unless you're out of wack on a few things or death flashed. Check the TPS reading. Do a search to find that info.
Sometimes mine will rip more than others. It will ALWAYS spin em good if I punch it from a dead stop. Sometimes if I am turning a corner and hit it before I'm out it will spin and about slam the rev limiter if I had it manually in 1st gear (auto).
Well, it slammed the rev limiter when it used to be at 6K. Now it really doesn't have that problem being moved up to 6500.

I dont have the deathflash - I have headers, MSD, Duals w/ crossover, no cats and 4.10. dogs off the line and catches up real quick at about 3000 rpm. I'm thinking a good 2000 stall might help.
