Message: This actually depends on your type of driving and the condition of your ignition system as a whole > If your a granny type driver stick with factory gap > If your Push it a little to a push it a lot open the gap 10 thousands extra > Also you do not wany a 50,000 volt coil unless your strictly wide open race driver > For absolute best performance on a street machine you want 30,000 volt coil preferably metal case to run cooler > It needs to be oil filled and state veriable spark, controled spark or words to this effect > you do this and yu will be a happy camper

Message: Stock spark plug gap for 1992 318 .035" or as suggested about you could open up the gap the newer dakotas use a gap of .040" you could go up to .045". This will allow for better performance.

Message: I'm going to try it at .040 and see how that goes, I do not drive like my grandmother, hehe
A friend also told me that if I'm changing the plugs and wires, I might as well get a new distributor cap too, is that really necessary?
Thanks for the help and advice!

Message: I've only had the truck for 2 years and I've never replaced it. Since its an inexpensive part I'll just put in a new one. Is there any other maintenance in this area that's recommended?
Thanks

If you are going to replace the wires, it's a good idea to replace the cap and rotor as well. One thing I would pay attention to is the firing order. Make sure that you replace you new wires in the same order that you take the old ones off. Keep in mind driver side of the engine compartment odd numbered spark plugs from front to back 1-3-5-7. On the passenger side of the engine compartment front to back 2-4-6-8. I hope this helps if you need the firing order, I will need to get that. If you need additional help contact me at wadak1234@yahoo.com.
