Subject: error codes IP: Logged
Message: I'm getting error codes 51, 152, 161 on my boyfriends 01 dakota. 161 means o2 sensor heating element not working properly. where is this and is it easy to fix? My boyfriend comes back from Iraq in three weeks and I need to get this fixed. is it a major problem? any info would be great. thanks

Message: Here are some words stolen from my service manual.
"P0051-O2 SENSOR 2/1 HEATER CIRCUIT LOW
O2 Heater element input is below the minimum acceptable voltage."
"P0152-O2 SENSOR 2/1 CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE
The Oxygen Sensor voltage is above 3.99 volts for 30 seconds."
"P0161-O2 SENSOR 2/2 HEATER PERFORMANCE
No sensor output is received when the PCM powers up the sensor heater."
O2 sensor 2/1 is the passenger side upstream sensor (before the catalytic converter).
O2 sensor 2/2 is the passenger side downstream sensor (after the catalytic converter).
Could be a fuse, or a relay, or a bad connection.
I'm pretty sure that by law, emmissions parts are warranteed for much longer than the rest of the vehicle. Might depend if you , or he, is the original owner, though.
