Whenever I'm stopped in idle and I have the AC selector in one of the first three settings (Hi AC, low AC, and the first vent setting) I hear a noise similar to fan blades barely hitting something. But, when I accelerate or select one of the other settings on the AC knob, the noise goes away. Any ideas as to what this could possibly be? I've got a 5.9, 2000 Quad. Thanks!

Additional info: The sound cycles on and off every 10 seconds or so, I hear the sound through the air vents and I don't hear anything with my head under the hood.

Does it have to be pretty quiet to hear the noise? Are you sure it is not the A/C clutch cycling? The only other thing I can think is that your A/C charge is a little bit low and you are hearing the 134A cycle through the evaporator. (sounds crazy but believe me, you'll hear it). May be what you're hearing. Let us know what you find.

Well, as far as "quiet" goes, I'd say I can hear it over a low volume radio station at most. Otherwise, it's not a very loud sound, but it is quite obvious. And at first I thought it was AC related, but I still here it when it's on the first vent setting and the AC isn't even on. Could the AC clutch still be cycling? And if it's the 134, would a small refill fix the problem? Thanks!
