Message: Hey
I have a 97 CC 4x4 auto just did an engine swap from a v6 to a 318. Swapped to a 99 318 with a 46RE tranny.
The truck started right up after the swap using the 99 computer and wiring harness. But after about 10 starts and only 4 or 5 blocks of travel the engine died and would not start. Gave me a fuel light on the dash. So I figured it was a problem with the computer. After many a phone call and headache, I decided to put back in my v6 harness, tap in the 2 injectors, and get a 97 computer for a 318.
I realize there are different computers offered for a 97 318 auto 4x4, but I thought I would take my chances and get one from a salvage yard. Well, no start....
I am confused because it would seem to me that the computer should start the engine, regardless of the model if the year is the same as the truck and the pins are the same as the other models of computer (they have told me there are like 6 diff possibilities for my truck). I can start my fuel pump by jumping the relay, but the computer will not do it on its own. This also will not start the truck.
I have talked to all the dealerships in my area and no one will do a thing for me unless I pay the $80/hr shop fee, which they will start from square one on my swap. Cant afford this.
I feel like the problem is narrowed down to the computer, but where do I go from here?
I have the old v6 computer, the 318's computer (99), and this 97 318 computer. Man- learning a lot here but I am at the end of the rope!
Can anyone help me here? I have been told my truck may never run again from some service techs, but I know there is a way and it can't be that hard. I know for a fact that everything mechanically is fine, starter to fuel pump, injectors, everything.
Please help. Evan

Message: Just an update
I tried to get trouble codes with a scanner today and am not able to recieve a response from my truck. I first tried with the 97 318 computer and no response, so I threw in the v6 computer and still got no response with the scanner. The PDC did make a buzzing noise with the v6 computer hooked up and the key turned to the ON position. The same noise it makes if you take out a relay with the power on. But all of the relays are in along with all the fuses in the PDC.
This must be something in the PDC??? Would this prevent the computer from talking to the scanner?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!!!
