Subject: 4.7L Spark Plugs IP: Logged
Message: Ok, i just changed my oil on my 2002 4.7L Automatic to Mobil One Synthetic. I am wanting to change the plugs too. I took it to the factory at 30k to get their recommened maintence. Idk if they changed them or not. I just want to go with the best plug. I have searched the whole site and all i find is people arguing all these irrelevant facts. I just want to ask people what they have used and what worked good and what didnt. I know they come with champion copper plugs. Thank You

Message: I use Autolite 5224 plugs in both of my trucks. They work great, where cheap ($.96 each at WalMart), run smooth.
I can't attest to any power gains from spark plugs as others do (or for that matter, understand how a spark plug gives an HP increase), but I see no reason not to use these on a stock engine.

Message: I always install the type of plugs the vehicle was designed with. Unless your engine requires a plug different from that.
Chrysler, Champions
GM, AC Delco
Ford, well...If I had to work on one, I'd use Motorcraft or Autolite.

Message: I have used autolights, champions and NGK. By far the better spark plug for me has been the NGK. Thay last a lot longer and give a good spark. I have used the NGK before and after the installation of my supercharger. I have the Ngk's in now.

Message: I just replaced my stock spark plugs with Autolite 3923's this evening. The truck only has 15k on it but the idle has been getting worse. It was an easy project, only took me 1.5 hrs and I'm not very mechanically inclined. Anyway, the only immediate difference I noticed is that the idle is much smoother. I only drove 5 miles around town so I don't know about mpg yet. I read many posts on the subject, some guys love the Autolites, others don't. Time will tell I guess, at least they didn't cost much. Anyone know how many miles I can get out of the Autolites?

Message: I have heard that plats and coil over packs dont mix well. something about burning up the coil over packs. but have heard alot of people runing plats in the 4.7 with no probs. I have the reg autolites in my 4.7 and the truck runs better and smoother than the champions ever did. it was the first time I ever saw champions wear so bad. I have ran champions in my ranger and never had them wear so bad. so maybe champions are not good for the coil over packs in engines.anyone know about other coil over engines and how champions wear in those engines? I will be trying the V groove in my truck soon.

Message: Thanks for those websites...it seems that a 4.7l with mods would like the platinum spark plug because isnt the HO simply that?

Message: I've put 80,000 miles on my '01 4.7 using Bosch Platinum +4's 4418. The most noticeable difference is the smoother idle compared to the stock Champions. The coil-pack damage is a BS flag for sure; the Jeep HO uses platinums. Platinums main benefit is longer, more consistent service life.

Message: Checked the stock plugs at regular intervals and they always looked good. Ran them over 100k before changing to Autolite's. Unless you’re running a modified engine, just buy a quality plug (Champion, Autolite, etc...). I did have trouble with the Bosch in a modified 88 5.0 GT Mustang. Burned the electrodes out of the ceramic.

Message: I have a 2000 Grand Cherokee with the 4.7L in it. I
put the Bosch IR Fusions in the last time I changed
plugs, back in the end of '08, and so far I've put
about 90k miles on them without a problem. Not sure
of any real gains in performance from just the plugs
though. I added a Volant CAI, a Gibson exhaust and a
Superchips tune to it at the same time I changed
plugs. That's just my 2 cents though.

Message: Got my 01 Dakota recently and I'm looking to give it an
upgrade. (Spark plugs, intake. Etc). I came across pulstars
and was wondering if anyone ever heard any bad things
about them? I heard NGKs melt and autolites I heard cause
engine damage. Never heard any problems with pulstars.
Any gap and torque settings anyone would recommend?
