I have yet to find a 99 dakota regular cab with the 5.2l in it. Only ones i can find are r/t's. What year did they stop producing the 318? I found a couple 98's with the 318 and a reg cab but no 99's
I am looking for a 2wd rc with the 5.2l in so once i get my new block i will want to switch out athe stock 318 from a 2wd and put my s/c one in it, and sell the 4x4 with a stock 5.2.
Dont they make these also with a 5 speed? That would be a nice combo. s/c 318 9# etc with a 5speed 2wd. That would prob be a 12 sec or less dakota.

They switched to the 4.7 in '00. They seem to think of the RC as a base model and usually sell with the 6; I had to search to find my v8 RC, but they're out there - likely a similar scenario for your '99 v8 RC. Too bad DC has now turned its back on the RC platform for those of us who valued lighter weight and tighter turning.
Would your SC transfer to an R/T ? Should be some good deals out there with gas prices what they are; and you'd gain the extra displacement.

Like Kowalski said, the 4.7L reg cab short bed 2wd is also a hard to find combination. I have one along with a 5 speed and 3.92 LS, but special ordered it like that rather than search for one.
The 5.2L did come with a 5 speed on the Dakota, but I've only ever seen one so equipped.
I was dissapointed that Dodge quit making a reg cab Dakota for 2005, but then again I probably wouldn't have gotten one anyway since I think they are ugly.

Yeah I am thinking about just getting a 360 block if it will work with my edelbrock aluminum heads. But then what else would I need for it to work?
But I kinda would rather get a stock 5.2 to put in the 4x4 making it easier to sell the truck and get a 2wd. People would get suspicious about seeing a 360 when the vin says 5.2.
Still deciding too if I should save to get the racing block (2k more)or get a stock one. If I go with the stock block rebuild I will also get a cam, m1,bigger tb, and rebuild the powerdyne if needed. Or if I got the racing block I still would have a stock tb, intake manifold, cam etc. Decisions decisions....

u so lucky to even have a 318, Cant beat the tried and trusted 318. Nothin will live up to its reliability, never!

thats another reason why i want to keep it a 318, just because they are going to become rare. Esp in a 99 dakota the last year of production for them.

I've got a 1999 Dakota with the 318 and a 5 speed. It is a club cab with 4x4 though.

I got lucky fininding mine and thought That my truck was going to be slow because it wasnt an R/T...LOL how I was wrong its still slow but ran the same quarter or very close to stock with 3..55s
I know my truck ran the best with a little tire slip pulling a 2.25 60' and 15.42 @ 88 mph stock. I think its going to be rare since we have the nwest 318 in a dakota and will be hard to find in the future for sure let alone now!
