Subject: '03, HO cams factory or No? IP: Logged
Message: I have read both that the 03's have HO cams from the factory and that they don't.
Does anyone know for sure? I am seriously thinking about these to make my truck feel a little better when I am driving it more this winter.
Thanks,
Chris

Message: I believe it's the intake manifold that's HO.

Message: That would make sense since the truck has very little low in the RPM range... Can anyone confirm this?
I was actually shocked that I did not see anything about this at KRCPerformance.com...

Message: That is correct, the cams are NOT HO versions unless the engine is a HO version (which 97-04 Daks didn't receive).
Your intake is HO and tuned for topend...you'll love the cams.

Message: Neither are HO. The intake on the HO Jeep engine that yaer is the same as the regular piece. Its only an HO part if it differs. Both engines also share the same water pump and many other parts; that doesn't make the common parts HO !

Message: the 03+ intakes are modeled after the 02 h.o. intake however, with shorter runners and all. so it's really not that inaccurate to call them h.o.

Message: When its the same part in both motors, I think its very innacurate to call that part HO - the implication is that its a high output part, when it isn't. It would be just as accurate to say that intake was modeled after the non HO intake, but with longer runners. The truth is it is a compromise design; and since its the same part used in both motors, it simply isn't HO. For those who simply must insist this regular part is HO, why don't you slap some more speed stickers on your vehicle for better performance too ? Hey guees what ? I just realized I have HO lugnuts - how much faster does that make me ?

Message: Well I can say that when i put on my HO valve stems I gaines about 7456.2 HP and dropped almost a full tenth in the quarter...
Back to my initial question. Is there benefit to the HO cams in a 2003 non-HO Dakota.

Message: Yes - most of the torque gain of the whole HO package.
