Message: my 98 318 shift at 3500rpm udder full throttle why would it do that.

Message: Simple thing would be the linkage to the throttle body is out of adjustment.
If it's not, then you may have a stuck valve/governor in the tranny.
Do a search and someone on here should have the instructions for setting that throttle linkage to the tranny. I think it takes two people to really do it. One holding it floored and one pressing the release button to adjust the cable at the Throttle Body.
That's why i like my electronic auto tranny :)
