Subject: Problem during v6 - v8 swap IP: Logged
Message: I'm swapping in a 5.9 supercharged as we speak, but I am having troubles getting the NV3500 transmission off of the 3.9. I've got most of the engine dissassembled, along with the headers off. Next step is transmission off.
Is it possible to swap the engines without dropping the transmission? I have 4x4 and in order to drop the transmission it will add a lot of work. The exhaust, crossmembers and front axle are all in the way.
Can I swap the engines without dropping the transmission, or do I have to drop the transmission along with the engine and pull it out as a single unit? I'm worried about the splines not matching up, I already have the new flywheel.
I don't need theoretical from people who say yay/nay without actually doing it. I'm doing it right now and need real answers from people who have done the swap.
It's a 5spd 4x4 v6.

Message: Yes, it's possible to pull the engine without removing the tranny, but I'm confused as to where you are at. First you say that you are "having troubles getting the NV3500 transmission off of the 3.9." Tnen you say that you don't want to "swap the engines without dropping the transmission."
Are you trying to use the original trany with a supercharged 5.9?
Anyway refer to any manual and it will give you a step by step procedure for doing it either way.
Good luck

Message: Yes I am using the NV3500 tranny with the new motor. Now my new problem is my 1999 v8 wiring harness is different than my 2002 wiring harness. I have to find the wiring diagram to add the 2 injector wires I need to add to my v6 wiring harness. My new v8 plug doesn't fit into my 2002 v6 fuse box.
I also found out that my 4x4 front axle is held up by my motor mounts. That adds more work to taking off my motor mounts.

Message: do yourself a favor, put a tranny in there that will handle the HP you are putting to it
dont gety me wrong, i dont know that much
but a stock 3.9 tranny hooked up to a blown 360, your going to be putting a new one in soon anyway, unless you dont ever push that motor past 2k RPM
whn you do that watch your gears fly out the bellypan

Message: The nv3500 tranny will hold up. Does anybody know where I can find information on adding the 2 injector wires to my existing wiring harness?
