Message: Okay, I read Graphite's web page on the 180 T-stat mod. He doesn't mention a year model for the 180 T-stat on the 5.2/5.9. Does it matter? I'm heading to the parts house tomorrow. I'm changing belt, hoses, P/S pump and I thought while I was at it I would throw a T-stat in on the deal.
TIA
Bill H.

Message: The 180 degree thermostat is not highly sugested. The computer will run rich if the operating temp is not at least 190 degrees. I run a 185 degree, from mopar performance in the summer. 195 Degree in the winter. The 180 degree will really hurt your gas milage, and a loss of around 4-8 HP.

Message: Bill,
Some people with certain set ups, don't agree with Sean here on this one.
I got rid of my belt clutch fan, with the 180, the stock electric is more than enough, even here in Texas.
The 180 t-stat fits all magnums, and the 4.7 .

Message: That's not true. Most engines make their optimum power at 180 degrees. OEM's use 190's for emission purposes. A 160 degree thermostat on the other hand isn't good for the engine.
Though the difference is barely noticable, a 180 T-stat will allow your engine to run more efficiently and should increase power and mpg.
Bill H., the thermostats should be the same for all the magnum 3.9/5.2/5.9 and even the 4.7. I hear RobertShaw GT755-180 thermostat is one of the better ones for our trucks.

Message: RobertShaw T-stats aren't available anymore(unless you find old stock/inventory) they got bought out by Cooper Automotive. However, Mr. Gasket sells the RobertShaw under their name. If you get the MrGasket 4364, you should be OK. As a bonus, they're even less expensive ($8.88 @ Summit Racing).
Your won't throw a code and it's not going to hurt mileage or power. Even with a 180 T-stat, you'll probably still be running around 190, which is a lot better than 210 with the stock one.

Message: I just bought a Duralast 180 thermo from autozone for < $10. I had the parts place look for a thermo from a 99 Dakota 5.2. They listed 195(stock), 180, and 160.
