I'm so happy with my 4.7 it isn't even funny!!! 145,000 miles of rough mountain driving and still no problems. I'd say 4.7s don't suck at all!

Hell yeah!

If I wanted to be an a$$. I could laugh at the fact that my 2003 4.7 comes with the electronic tranny which is EASIER by far to tweek than the 46RE tranny.

$350 SuperChips programmer and my truck revs higher and my tranny barks the tires every now and then it shifts so fukking hard!
And I never cracked the drain pan on MY tranny.

We got the shift kit for my bro in laws 5.2 with 46RE. The instructions were so confusing, we didn't know which parts where for HIS version of tranny (and I've done tranny's before) so he decided to give up!

I'm not against ANY of the Magnum V8's. But some people are stupid.

Here sometime soon I may have a car again running a 360 or a 400. Guess I'll have to suffer with one of them OLDER tranny's LOL! But that's ok. It will be a 1/4 mile car.

lol.. there aint nuttin to tweak on a 45. Sorry you cannot read instructions on how to do the simple shift kit.

hahaha.. just f'n with ya.

there's a lot more to "tweak" on the older 727 based trannies.

I've DONE the 727 tranny's intense.

And when I was over at my bro in laws house and he had the instructions that were not exact... we got pissed at it.
While some of the parts reminded me OF the 727. It had many variables. i mean, it had like 4 diff possible 46RE versions or some sheet! And you had to KNOW which one you had and to use the parts/mods it listed to do it right.

Maybe it was the sh*tty shift kit he bought!
He had the tranny down because it crackered up. We had to put new pump gears in it. We did and gave up on the shift kit at the time. It's been fine since. Just no shift kit.

With the 5-45RFE being easier. I mean, it IS. I plug in a cable to the port INSIDE my cab. And press a few butons and next thing ya know it's jerkin' the tires as good as most street shift kits! It even drops into 1st from 2nd hard.

Yesterday I was following the bro in law in that crazy turbo Silvia he was driving home. I had punched mine on this bridge at about 30MPH. It dropped to 1st, then hit 2nd on it's own at about 47MPH and barked the living sh*t out of my tires! I didn't even pull it down manually that time! My tires are still down at 20PSI too since I forgot to air them up :p
It don't always bark them. Just depends on what I'm driving on and my truck is kinda loud anyway. My bro in law said he has heard it bark a little several times when he was next to it when I didn't even hear anything.

With 4.10's I should be laying some rubber during shifts. Imagine a RC 2WD Dakota and 4.10's?

I'm about to get me that Duster and 318 here real quick. I'll most likely run a 727. You KNOW I'll mod that whore real good to my liking!

Show you guys what's up! j/k :)

Yah On mine its very easy to bark them or even start spinning downshifting when I has 3.55s in my RC but now that i have 3.92s and a shift kit. But I had the guy set the shift kit for my truck to only down shift to first maunally. It will donwshift to 2nd and thats plenty of acceleration for the in and out traffic.

Glad to hear QCs have power, Dodge knew what they were doing when they created those 4.7s...hehe

you can plug in a cable and hit a few buttons with the 46re. The superchips firms up the shifts very well on a R/T. That's the only reason my buddy with his R/T.. he didnt like the 93 program because of the cost of gas, but like the tranny afterwords.

i did a transgo for my 42re.. should be the same as the 46re.

"Imagine a RC 2WD Dakota and 4.10's"

Wait. I thought the ONLY things electronic in the 46RE was the lock up, and OD?
Do they have some control for line pressure?
Other than that. From what I saw (bro in laws 2000 RAM we took apart) it was all mechanical JUST LIKE the 727/904.

His superchips didn't do anything for his tranny.

yes they do.. lol

46re.. e for electric

before that was the 46rh.. h for hydaulic

haha..

they have a governor pressure solenoid and transducer. They control the line pressure. When the RE series came out, that was the main problem with a lot of them needing replacing with low miles... the solenoids they used were shiatty.

if you took the valve body off, you got a good view of the solenoid and transducer right there on it.
