Subject: Shifting problems in the R/T IP: Logged
Message: Lately I'v noticed at WOT, sometimes not even WOT just enough to get the truck to wind out, when the truck is about to shift from 3rd to 4th at the top of 3rd when it hits the RPM its supposed to shift at (Right around 5500RPM I beleive atleast after the PCM was installed and thats been awhile) its almost like it drops back to second instead of shifting to 4th... What will happen is right around 5500rpm the truck will feel like its going to shift but the RPMS will jump way up almost to 6500 and it sounds like there is a popping/hissing type sound comming from under the hood. When I let out of it its ok, shifts into the next gear normally... Now I'v had the truck since 00', I'm the original owner, and the truck as just a tad over 30 thousand on it. Its never driven hard consistantly... What I mean is from time to time I will get on it but not every single time I pull away from a stop. This problem has never occured before, so hopefully someone can diagnose it for me, or atleast throw out some idea's that could give me an idea of what might be going wrong...
I know my discription of the problem is vague but if you guys need more info I'll try my best to make it more clear. Thanks.

Message: My '99 5.2 just started the same problem on Saturday going 1st to 2nd. The check engine light came on and I pulled the code, P0720 Output Speed Sensor. I have read from other posts that it is about $20, but I don't know where it is on the transmission.
Hope this helps.

Message: Output Speed Sensor: $20.25 from Dealer
Super easy to remove and install. Pulled skid plate. Used Cresent ajustable wrench to get old sensor out (couldn't find a 25mm deep socket in this town). Put new one in and reset DTCs. It shifts like new now.
It is cheap and easy enough to try to see if it solves the shift problems.
Good luck!
