Was 23.9 on a 145 round trip to provincetown.
Average speed was 42 mph in a rural urban tipe road, w/ some red lights (10 or so). In some point it had been 24.8, but traffic changed, so...
This was w/ no lines forming behind me, and absolutelly following thru traffic.

Another time i got 22,8 going to Boston at 59 mph average, but this time i drove about 30 miles behind a bus (almost no drag).
Other than that, 18 to 20 is the normal numbers.
Right now, my average is 21.6 for the last 900 miles, obeing the speed limit signs.

I think the lower speeds are very good for the milage on these trucks. My trip to work is quite a bit of 50 mph travel and the overhead computer reads 21-23. Before people bash the overhead, mine seems to be accurate.

And my GMC Seirra 292cid (vortech 4800) gets about 20 MPG even with a hyperchip installed.

99 5.2, 5 speed, 4x4 Club Cab with 3.55 gears.

It has an Air Raid filter on a stick installed and I replaiced the muffler with a two chamber Flowmaster unit.

I average 15 miles per gallon in the city. Cruising 70mph on the highway, I average 18.5mpg. Recently, on a 250 mile trip, I cruised at 60mph instead, doing that got me 21mpg.

So far the best mileage during everday driving mostly interstate to work is 18.5mpg with cruise on 65, no a/c being used on a 2001 w/4.7, two wheel drive. Just installed a K&N drop in filter just to see if it makes a difference. I'll post the results after using two tanks of gas. If it helps, great; if it doesn't, at least I won't have to buy another filter.

None of them worked.

I am averaging 12.8 mpg in the city. Freeway travel was highly documented over the past weekend and an average of 16.3 mpg. recorded, with a best of 16.8 mpg. That was at 75 mph., A/C going, front end lowered ~1" using torsion bars to adjust and even out the height.

My truck is a 2K Dakota QC 4x4 w/5.9 and 3.92 gears. Also has 50-series Flowmaster, MSD 6a, MSD Blaster 3 coil, MSD 8.5mm wires w/Beck Arnley cap & rotor, cold air intake, 180 t-stat. Other mod's I can't think of right now, but basically what everyone else has done to improve their mpg. I suppose when I consider what I was getting before, which was 11-11.5 I do have improvements. The total mpg. is not good and I feel that I am in the bottom bracket for average mpg. My quest is to improve. The next mod I will be experimenting with is a higher flowing throttle body. I found a $30 throttle body on ebay that I will start porting and enlarging the openings to today, and then try it out before doing it to my original throttle body.

If you got rid of that 180 degree thermostat and put a factory spec one back in there, you gas mileage should go up. I'm not sure how much it would go up, but it would be noticeable.
