Message: Alright than, I'm finally going to go try it. My '99 R/T get's about 15.1 MPG now. I have been using Castrol Syntec. I just bought myself 6 Qts of AMZOIL 5W30 and their 12k Oil Filter. I've always been told that AMZOIL will help increase gas milage, so stay tuned and I will keep you informed if it helped.

Message: How in the Hell are you guys getting 18-20 mpg from your trucks. I have full synthetic in both differentials & engine, K&N, single cat, hawged & polished TB, no fan(except for the electric) and can only manage to eek out 15 MPG on the autobahn doing abt 75-85. It wasn't much better in the states, with a best of 16.5 highway. I'm trying to save money, but my sh!t just ain't working. Whats up!!!

Message: Vehicles now days are set to get their best gas mileage at 60 MPH. I'm guilty of pushing that a bit by averaging 65, but kind of heavy on the foot if someone challenging is around. Got to get myself by that.

Message: Bubba, you drive at speeds of 75-85 and you want good mileage too? with a truck that has the aerodynamics of a brick, that's damn near impossible.
if i drive my truck 60-65, i get about 10% better mileage than driving 75-80.

Message: I see people say they replaced the clutch fan with an electric fan. Why hasn't anyone just gone to a bone yard to get one off another vehicle?

Message: Slow; I have slowed down considerably. I was averaging about 95-105.
Daddio; If I were to try 60-65, I would, more than likely, cause a few accidents & piss off quite a few Germans. I'm just barely keeping up with trafic as it is.
Lately, I've been driving my hoopty (87 BMW 325) when I have to travel for work, but the whole dependability thing ended about a 100,000 kilometers ago.

us all wheel drive guys have quite a disadvantage. regular 4x4 gets about 1 better and 2wd gets 2 or 3 better.

Message: I had considered possibly trying a swap to the normal xfer case, but after checking out the cost vs benefits, couldn't really justify it (although it would be nice to actually do a burnout instead of power brake for an occasional chirp). I guess I'll just have to deal with what I've got.

Message: Okay, the other week I put the drop in K&N filter in my 01 dak to see if it made a difference. Been averaging 18.5mpg with cruise set at 65 before the filter. Took a trip to Newberry SC this weekend from Kentucky. Took I-75 to I-40E (through the Gorge), then to I-26E. A butt load of hills and average speed was 75mph; anything slower and I would have been run over. One way trip is 368 miles. On the trip down I got 19.821mpg and didn't have to get gas until I got to SC. On the trip home I got 20.041. Had the a/c on quite a bit of the time too. If the filter isn't what helped, then I don't know what did especially since I was averaging 75mph in the mountains! I think the $49 I paid for the filter was worth it.

Message: Well I just might think about selling my truck and buy another truck. I still get about 17 MPG avg but still with price per bbL going though the roof I just need something that can go a week with 10 gallons in the tank. What the fuel economy with one of those Jeep Libertys (2.8L Diesal)?

Message: From what I've read of the Liberty Diesel, it is rated to get just over 30 miles per gallon on the highway. I'm guessing probably like 25-26mpg in the city.
Realistically though, in real world driving, it'd probably be higher. Volkswagon diesels typically get higher than the EPA estimates. My Mother's Jetta TDI gets close to 45mpg in the city and 50mpg on the highway.

Message: I have a 94 Dakota v6 club cab, v8 tb, all synthetics engine, 5 speed manual, cold air intake, tps set at .8v, magnaflow muffler and high flow cat, cps mod, performance pcm from Summit and water injection. I run a bed cover also. I run a Jacobs ultra coil with split-fire spark plugs that are indexed. Running at 70 mph with the cruise control on I get 27 mpg consistently and 20 in town.

Bone stock I get about 19 mpg if I keep my foot out of it. By comparison my '74 Lil Red Express gets 8 mpg on a good day. It hasn't left the driveway much lately...

Message: I put in a drop in K&N and added cat back Duals with a Flowmaster (40) and average 21MPG in my 2001 4X4 club cab Dakota using Castrol Syntec. That is highway mileage of course, city runs around 14-16mpg.
Towed my 17' camper From KY to California up to Washington and back which was 7K miles and averaged 12, not bad concidering the 3800lb load the Rockies and I run in 3rd (Never tow in overdrive)
I also have a glass lid on the bed, that alone adds quite a bit.

Message: Ok, here is my results for the week, but some details first. I'm in the Navy and am a geo Bacholer, so what I put on mostly is HWY miles and previously averaged 15.1 MPG. This week, I didn't do much extra driving in Norfolk either. Since I changed from Castrol Syntec to AMSOIL and slowed down to 60MPH on the trip down. The average was 17.1 MPG. Today on the way home I slowed down to 55MPH and averaged 17.7 MPG. Next thing I might try is that K&N Filter.
