Message: looking at purchasing a 98 dakota club cab, 91,000 miles, v8 5.2L, 5 speed, dealer asking $6900...the only problem i can see is the clear coat is starting to peel off...is this an indication of something else or just outdoor wear and tear on the truck...can anyone give me a rough estimate of what it would cost to have it repainted...it's black now and i love it and would probably get it repainted black but it looks bad with the clear coat peeling off...is it worth the money or should i look for something else?? thanx

Message: I have an 01 qc 4.7 i paid 10k for last summer with 75k miles. That sounds like a decent price I'd check the local paper and see what they sell for near you, check ebay, and also check kbb.com and inquire about a carfax and look for previous rental, theft, collision damage history. A decent paint job on my truck in silver was $1500. ENJOY!!!!!

Message: Sorry i forgot I heard on dateline that 7 of 10 factory paint jobs have blems some more severe, but fading chipping clearcoat is normal for a vehicle thats out in the weather. So a paint job would make her good as new. Maybe some new headlights b/c when you paint it it will look great but with dull yellowed lights (if they are dull and yellow) it will take away from the overall look.

Message: I have a 98 Dakota that the clearcoat is de-laminating from the base coat!!! Last year I got a estimate from the dealer I purchased the truck new at for $2,700+ to paint ONLY the areas that were pealing...aboyt 1/3 of the truck. I paid for a good paint job when I purchased the truck new. Why do I need to pay for a MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT??? bottom LINE IS THAT parts of the truck that were good last year are now pealing. The whole truck now needs to be repainted. CHRYSLER>>>> SHAME ON YOU!!! The resale valve of my truck is DEMINISHED and Chrysler tells ne Too bad So sad. Plan on spending at least $5,000 on a complete Quality paint job and factor this into the selling price.
Happy hunting This is an OVERWELMING problem with many Dodge trucks I see on the road Here in Arizona With enough pressure maby owners can get satisfaction for this lousy paint on 98 Dakotas

Message: I bought a 98 dakota recently for about 3500$ with only 125k trucks in great condition engine runs and looks brand new. Sadly the clear coat is delaminating. The truck is black and according to some friends in the autobody business you can get a quality paint job for $1200. you have to take into consideration what they actually do to prepare the truck. the clear coat has to be stripped off, the whole truck sanded down, masked and primed then painted and then clear coated. A Majority of the cost goes to labor and only a fraction goes to materials. I live in Manitboa Canada where every season is a nightmare, but this doesnt take away from the fact that dodge tried to cut some corners concerning price on their paint jobs. Paint should last.
As for you, gnemack
if someone is quoting you $5,000 for a paint job, It better have diamonds in it, find a different shop for the love of god.
