Subject: Power steering leak IP: Logged
Message: Hey board, I have a 2000 with a 4.7 V8 Quad Cab 4X4. It has a P/S leak whenever I go to wheel stop left or right. It appears to be leaking from the main shaft behind the pulley. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a rebuild solution or am I stuck with buying a new $$$ pump???

Message: You can usually get a rebuild kit for less than $20. Includes seals, o-rings, etc. Varies on the pump. New ones are only about $30-40 anyway, and you have to pull it off to rebuild to begin with.

Message: if its leaking and its not a line in or out that is leaking you will have to replace the entire pump/resevoir assembly. mine was slightly cracked and i had to get the entire pump/resevoir assembly and it was abit pricey!!! i think i paid just over $300 for part and labor. that was with a super sneaky discount too( neighbor is manager for the place that put it in). dodge wanted $500 for parts and labor.
You gotta ask yourself one question...That Thing Got A HEMI???

Message: Midnight, that is kind of what I thought. I can get the pump/resevior assembly from http://www.newdodgeparts.com for a shade over $200.00. I'll do the labor myself and save some dough there. The .com company is actually a dealership in Texas that offers huge discounts if purchased on line. I'll go that route any day over buying from my local dealer who wants $302.00 for the same pump and resevior assembly. I have to pull the radiator and have it gone through or recored anyway so it should be pretty easy.
That brings to mind another question, do any of you know if anyone makes a heavy duty radiator for the Dakota? Mine has the towing package but it has always seemed a little weak for my taste and the California central valley heat especially when pulling a trailer.
