Message: I have a 2002 Dakota 2wd. Since I got it it makes a noise(reeka reeka)when I back up and turn sharp. Now sometimes when I am going forward slow and turning sharp I hear it. I have about 64k miles on it. The tires are P255 65 R16 came from the factory with them. Are they too large? Can it be the possatraction(sp) ? The noise seems louder now. Have not had it to a factory dealer yet.
Thanks, Gary

Message: Are you sure it is not your steering stops located on the front lower control arms?? Noises do travel and that tends to be a reeka reeka noise on sharp turns...forward and backward. If not, go to the dealer and buy some posi-traction additive. Drain a little gear oil out of the diff if need be and put the additive in. Take it out for a drive...(parking lots work great) and make several hard left and right turns. Make them going forward and backward if possible. (we usually do figure 8's) BE CAREFUL though...you do get dizzy. Try that...see what happens.

Message: My 01 4X4 does the same,
Steering is not locked to stops, but it is loudest when turned sharply. and has done this since it was new.
Sounds like rubber in a bind. I figured it was the leaf spring rubber due to the limited slip.

Message: I have had the rear end in my 01 4.7l auto with limited slip, rebuilt twice(under warranty)
I know the sound very well.
If it's not too bad, you can change the fluid and I used Amsol with the additional friction modifier and it gave it a little more time.
The gears seem to be stripped easily, especially when you are like me and love to do standing 180 turnarounds and like to turn onto a highway and floor it to fishtail.
The repair will run you about $1500 if you're not under warranty. IF YOU ARE UNDER WARRANTY, BRING IT IN IMMEDIATLY AND GET IT FOR FREE!!!!
