Message: Any cheap soloutions for stopping this tick tick noise other than changing lifters. Its not the manifold, gaskets or bolts because i changed them all and its not the timing chain or injectors. As soon as i change oil it goes away then 1 to 2 weeks later its back and it happens at operating temp and cold temp. Its a 1998 318 Dakota 4x4 Any help would be great thanks. Running moble 1 syn and a Wix filter

Message: Go to a auto parts store and look for oil additives. There are a couple different brands that you could try (Risoline is the only name I can think of). Their purpose is to break down any large deposits of oil that could be causing the lifter to stick. Thats the only cheap solution that I can think of.

Message: valve lash on a 318 dodge?
First thing I would do is run some regular Mobil1 or Mopar oil. I've seen some different things happen with Mobil1 synthetic. Had a Camaro that aquired a lifter noise with synthetic oil. Try that. Then go for a lifter problem if it isn't solved.

Message: Yes, valve lash. Non-adjustable valve trains are subject to wear, and then the lash increases. Now you have valve train noise. It's a simple thing to check, and often free to fix.

Message: I agree with you on that. That'd be the first I heard of without something else being wrong. (on that engine series) CDAK, let us know what is up.

Message: In the 60's we used transmission fluid. Slowly pour in the carb, keep the engine running.
