Sounds rich.

At least running rich isn't the worst thing you could do. Maybe talk to someone at KRS or someplace who knows how to tune that biatch :)

I have no experience with tuning a SuperCharged engine. But I know black smoke is just PIG RICH.
Like I said, it COULD be worse. Which would be running boost and running LEAN which is a very bad thing. Running rich pretty much just fouls plugs, robs power, and uses gas. I'd rather run rich than run lean and melt something.

What did you get for fuel management with the SuperCharger? Bigger injectors? FMU? I'm curious and surprised no I one with a SuperCharger has chimed in yet. I know many ppl said they have had some tuning issues so there should be some experience around here.

Some day I'll be brave enough to run a SC or a Turbo and I'm definetly trying to learn from OTHER ppl's mistakes if I can help it :p

not to mention what it will do when it thins your oil to the point you get no lubrication from it.

like Graphite, i have no experience w/SC's but i think you should have some kind of FMU(fuel management unit) to help the PCM out with fuel, spark & timing under boost. who did you buy this from? have you tried contacting the vendor or manufacturer?

no matter what they told you, something like this is never bolt & go. and not having prior knowledge, an easy way to destroy a motor.

What year truck is it in. How many miles on the engine, and what other mods have been done? What kind of s/c is it? Are you running stock injectors or did you upgrade to a bigger set?

What did the supercharger come with in the way of adjustment for fuel??

Mine came with a digital FMU. Others come with an FMU that goes in the fuel return line. If you have nothing to adjust, there isn't really anything you can do. Unfortunately, dodge does not currently have an computer program like the chevy and fords.

You may be able to get a diablo tuner and have them help you with a fuel map.
There is also a FAST standalone fuel managment system.

Its all about how much you want to spend.

Mine at this point runs rich too. I am gonna schedule a little time on a dyno to get my FMU dialed in.

I have a supercharged 318 - When my motor spits out the black smoke its because the motor is detonating due to low octane or too much timing. I can barely hear the detonating sometimes. Detonation should be avoided as it will eventually ruin your motor.

what type of timing control do you use? and how many # of boost are you running? I can hear it start to detonate around 3k in 3rd, but i rarely take it that fast.

I also get a black sooty build up on my tail gate and pipes.

QUIKDAK, I'm a former supercharger owner and tuner, so hopefully this will offer some insight.

First off, get yourself on a dyno, or at the very least, a wideband O2 sensor. That will tell you what your air/fuel ratios are at any given rpm/load. You'll then need the ability to add/remove fuel. The FMU is good for static settings, but you need more control. At the least, MSD offers a timing controller that will allow you to remove timing based on boost. Other than that, a standalone is your best bet.

Fyi, blowers love when you remove intake blockages. Large diameter throttle bodies, and open intakes (cold air style unless you're running an intercooler)will show some positive gains.

Anyway, that's a great start.
Fyi, I use an Innovative LM1 wideband O2 sensor, with rpm pickup when tuning my turbo WRX. It's a cheap way to enter the tuning world.

good luck.
