I have heard mixed reports of the 5.7 and 4.7 HO going in the dakota rt. I think i remember seeing somewhere they decided against the 5.7 for 2006 because it may infringe on the dodge ram market.
For some reason Dodge is offering a bunch of different packages for '06 daks.

I dont see how putting a Hemi in the new Dak could infringe anymore on the Ram market than the 5.9 did in a quad cab 2nd gen Dak.
Also I thought Dodge said they couldnt fit the 5.7 in the engine bay of the 3rd gen Daks.

IMO there is no shame in Dodge comming up with some sort of blower setup for the 4.7ho in the 3rd gen Dak to make it an SRT-8. *shrugs*

In defense of the 4.7, it is a SOHC instead of a pushrod like the 5.7, and is made in MichiganUSA instead of Mexico. Besides a 4.7 is 3/4ths of a "HEMI" anyway, just not a full hemisphere.

2nd gen? no. 2nd gen never had 5.9's in them from the factory. never. 3rd gen did. 2nd gen was from 90 or 91(i forgot) till 96 then 3rd came out in 97. get it right. there is a big difference in 1st 2nd and 3rd and now 4th gen.

D-C considers the 1987-1996 Dakotas as "Generation I", and '97-'04 "Gen. II". The enthusiasts break it down at '87-'90, '91-'96, '97-'04, and '05-up is "Gen. IV". 1991 had the new front end to accomodate the 5.2L (318) V-8. The factory probably sees the front end change as a running improvement to the '87-'90, and not a "model change".

If they can get a HEMI in the durango why not the Dakota? Thats bull.... Anyways when Chevy starts making That V8 colorado SS dodge will have to answer with more than a 4.7L. And what exactly does that emblem say on the lower passenger side of the tailgate????

1st, A Dakota with anything less than a 5.7 is nothing more than an SLT.
2nd, I agree that the 2005 Dakota is the worst and ugliest Dakota ever built.
