Subject: Brand New 2005 Dodge Dakota Stalling IP: Logged
Message: Has anyone had experience with their 2005 4.7L V8 Magnum Quad Cab stalling. It has less than 800 miles on it and after driving around for awhile and making a turn it just dies. No Codes nothing. I have to put it in park and then it starts right back up. Dealer claims they have had no prior complaints about this with any other owners. I find that hard to beleive. Let me know if anyone out there has seen this.

Message: Rough idle and stalling are common complaints with the 4.7 - I wouldn't trust that dealer. The stalling is most common when the batteries get older and the computer forgets the idle setting because of low voltage - that's not likely your problem though, with a new truck. Could be a problem with the idle air control (on the back side of the throttle body; maybe you have a faulty one ? There are other possibilities too. Like daddio says, insist they fix it. Even if you were the only one this ever happened to (and you aren't), they should still fix it.

Message: my god!!! You have a brand new truck and you are already on this forum with problems on your dakota. Like stated above, take it to a dealer and demand they fix it. Less than a 1000 miles on it, it should be cherry.

Message: You stated "and making a turn" in describing your problem. I am not surprised. DC has had some awful rack & pinions lately. I had a 2002 Ram with low mileage that stalled on low speed right turns. The steering proportioning valve inside the rack & pinion clogs up causing two problems: 1) stalling because the computer fails to get the steering pressure signal to increase rpms, 2) leaking PS fluid out the boots.
The fact that your "new" rig does this is no surprise either. I have learned from hard experience not to buy a vehicle in its first two model years. Did it with three vehicles before I learned: 88 GMC 4X4, 90 Lemina ( Lumina )sedan, 2002 Ram. Now I drive a 2004 Dakota 4X4 QC and like it.....so far.
