Subject: Why isn't my A/C working? IP: Logged
Message: Hello all, I have a 1995 Dakota SLT 4X4 extended cab 5.2l. At the beginnig of the summer, I tried to use my a/c for the first time since last year and it only blew hot air. O.K., the clutch would kick on and off too frequently, so I thought maybe the freon is low. I added some freon with a kit from advanced auto called EZ-Chill and it got a little cold for a while and the compressor started taking longer intervals and then it stopped and went to warm air and the frequent coming on of the clutch again. The gauge that comes with the kit shows pressure to still be "in the blue" while the truck is running and the clutch is on. The low pressure hose gets cold when the truck is running, the clutch is spinning but too often, so what could it be? The air feels the same with the a/c button on or off. Please help me figure this out.....Rory

Message: Might need a condeser, thats the cheapest since you already used the freon kit. Or you might need a compressor. But call some shops and tell them what you posted cuz im no expert, just make sure you call like 3 or 4 different shops so you don't get ripped.

Message: I had the same problem with my 94 a few years back, took it to a guy and it turned out to be a bad o-ring, replaced the o-ring, recharged the system, and better than ever.

Message: If there is too much freon in the system it will shut down when the pressure gets too high. That might account for the cycling even when the pressure indicates "in the blue". Try bleeding off a small amount at a time to see if it helps.

Message: Yep. Sounds like the refrigerant is leaking out.
