 Subject: Some As*hole crashed into me

i got crashed into by a Camry.
My right rear rim is bent and so is the axle shaft. My question is I had a big drink in the cup holder....it spilled into the 4x4 shifter and went inside it. Now it makes a loud clunk with disengauging 4hi. Did this drink mess up my tranny? Do i tell insurance about the drink spilling in there? do you think they will buy me a new tranny for this?

im not sure, but i guess it wouldn't hurt to ask. I mean my brother
had a 1988 dakota and it had a crack in the windsheild, but then
one day he got into a small bumper accident and they replaced the
windsheild, eventhough it was there before the accident, maybe he
told them it was caused by the accident, but i dont know...just
thought it was a story almost related to yours...so they might
consider fixing your tranny.

1st dude - yea tell them about it and press for a fix.
2nd dude - full coverage will get your window fixed at no charge to you, thats old news - now you know.

If like my "full coverage" ($500. deductible), doubt ins. would get stuck for much on a windshield.
I hit two, yes, two deer last week. Although minimal damage the insurance is being fairly generous about it, but the deductible still applies.

Windshield is covered by your comprehensive, not collision (different deductible).

I agree with Pongo. Press to get it fixed, especially if it wasn't that way before the accident. I really doubt that your drink spilling on the shifter would cause that since the shifter is sealed off from the underside of the vehicle by both the outer shift boot and a thick tight-fitting rubber boot under that. Your drink probably just made a mess of the carpet underneath your shifter console. It sounds to me like you've got bigger issues.

I suspect Kory is right - damage is more likely directly related to the hit than the spilled drink. Its OK to go back to insurer and tell them not all damage was found/repaired - I've done that when more damage was found and it was taken care of.

they came and covered everything that happened and said when you get it checked by a trans shop they will cover it.
