Subject: 4x4 Traction upgrades IP: Logged
Message: Hello,
I have a 98 4x4 dakota with some lift and 33"x12.5's. With the 3.92's limited slip gears.
I am looking to get some better traction, cause it
seems like traction should be better when in mud or sand. Any one have any product recommendations?
Just dont want to get stuck in the dak or have to put it in 4wd to go where my buddy’s ranger goes in 2wd.
I have been stuck before with one tire spinning in the front and one spinning in the back. Talk about embarrassment!
Thanks!

Message: If you live where it doesn't snow, consider a locker or air locker instead of LSD.
Take a close look at the tires, they are key to obtaining traction. Nothing affects traction more than the tires. If you're getting stuck, you have the wrong tires.

Message: I have the 33x12.5x15 procomp xterains. I saw a show on tv about towing trailers up a ??%grade and saw how a 4x4 dodge ram with lsd couldn't pull it up even tho all 4 were spinning, but as soon as they put some lockers in it it pulled it up with out a prob.
Any suggestions on what product to go with?

Message: It is expensive, but detroit makes their electrac. It is a full time LSD but has a switch in the cab to make it a full locker when you want it. I think they have one for our rear axle. The problem with the front is.... nobody makes a locker for the front. Either way, for the front if they ever make one you would want a locker that you can control (do not want a locker in the front that you cannot turn off).

Message: The E-Locker looks cool too.
Are you SURE you have LSD in your diffs?
I have a 4X4 and BOTH axles came open carrier which sucks. While I STILL have awesome traction when all 4 wheels touch the ground, when I teeter sideways on two wheels it stops climbing and spins one in front and one in the back. I have to then touch my brake pedal enough so it stops the ones spinning and puts power to the other wheels too.
I plan on going with a regular LSD. My bro in law stuck some cheap locker in his 2WD Ram. It makes popping noises!
Even with my open diffs, I do alright. Check out this video from a while back. I had to rock my truck out of some slick a$$ clay mud. Plus there was a TREE blocking me from going straight, so that made it more difficult...

Message: I put an Auburn lsd in the back and it made a huge improvement in traction. Pretty cheap too.

Message: Yes anti-spin is the same as limited slip differential (LSD)
