Subject: ProForm Electric Fan VRS Flex-a-lite? IP: Logged
Message: Hello,
I found a black magic 150 like fan for pretty cheap. here! What do you think of this fan, is it just as good as the Black Magic 150?
Also, would this fan be enough for my supercharged 318 in temps around 90-100f?
I am also looking to install a trans cooler, any one have some recomendation for which one/route to take? Or some installation tips?
Thanks! I am just trying to protect my investment in my edelbrock aluminum heads and
recently rebuilt auto trans.

Message: Doesn't look too cheap to me.
I'd sooner go to Autozone and buy TWO smaller ones and mount them side by side whichever way pulls air through more of the radiator.
I've even had to make shrouds for some electrics before (not on my vehicles) that ran hot. I'd mount the fans on a sheetmetal boxed shroud where the fans would be about an inch behind the radiator. that way it pulls air through ALL of the radiator, not just in that one circle.
If you run A/C, that will help.
TWO fans and a t-stat at Autozone would be cheaper than what they have on that eBay sale. plus if something sucks, you can just bring it back to the autozone, etc.

Message: That is a flex-A-lite, its the same as the black magic 150 except the mounts are made for the mustang 5.0. Good deal, I just bought a 150r (red) for 230.00. Jump on it dude.

Message: I once had the BM 150 and found it couldn't keep up with 90 degree plus temps here in SoCal. I've since upgraded to GSM's "BeCool" twin fan set up. This new radiator will keep a top fuel dragster cool in death valley in the summer.
If I were you, take GraphiteDak's advice and get a twin fan set up. GraphiteDak is also 100% correct on having a proper fan shroud design for optimum cooling.
Good luck!

Message: Sounds like some good advice but I really am looking for a "kit" type deal. (Not to experienced yet)
Just wondering if that fan will be enough to keep my s/c 318 cool. Because my clutch fan is going out and AutoZone charges around $60 for it. So i figured it would be a good idea just to upgrade to the electric one and gain a couple ponies.
This fan that we are discussing is a puller fan? So it sits behind the radiator? If it happened to not be enough air being pulled through couldn't I just hook up a pusher fan for the front of the radiator and wire it up to use the same control as the puller?
Any of you guys have any advice/recommendations for a trans cooler?
Thanks guys for all you’re input, my 318 thank you as well!

Message: That fan will leave about 5 inches on each side of the radiator. The fan shroud on my 96 318 dak is 18X26 inches. I used a dual 12 inch fan set up and it stays cool all the time in Indiana weather.

Message: use a fan from a 1998 jeep grand cherokee 5.9 limited. fits with just minor mods to the shroud (that comes with the fan) and it even comes with a liitle sticker to remind you to keep your diggets out of the blades. i've got one on my 1999 dodge dakota R/T with a procharger supercharger and have had no problems for the tow years i've had it. it even has two speeds, low that i wired in with my a/c clutch and high to come on with a temp switch. remeber to always use relays when wiring in a cooling fan. it cost about $150.00 from my local mopar parts guy.
