The newer Jeep Liberties have a Diesel engine in them. I would say that that would be your best place to start researching. I would imagine that it would fit right under the hood. All you would need to do is adjust engine and tranny mounts, and take the liberty wire harness. I say all you would need, but obviously it would be quite a task electrically to get everything to work.

I hear they are good engines, and as with all new diesels, they have alot of room for performance upgrades.

The Jeep diesel is a 2.8L 4 cylinder CRD with 160hp and 295 ft-lbs of torque, no slouch, but if you were really committed to this, especially finacially, I would look at Mercedes new 3.2L V6 turbo diesel with 224hp and 376 ft-lbs of torque. With a little tuning, it would be a beast.

For an even better Mercedes diesel, I just read today about their new 4.2L twin-turbo common-rail V8 diesel with 310hp and 538 ft-lbs of torque!

Im sure the new crate price would make it unfeasible..but what about the new V10 TurboDiesel that comes in the Volkswagen Touregs? Petersons4wheel mag did a test run, said it performed very well, and ran AVG 17MPG. Sounds good to me!
