Subject: pulling a boat IP: Logged
Message: I have a 97 5.2L and I will be pulling a 18foot steel boat. Total about 2000 pounds by the time I get all the junk in it. I was wondering since I have never pulled anything with ths truck before if I should turn off the overdrive. I know it sounds like a stupid ? but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Thanks

Message: i used to pull boats all the time. yes turn the o/d off. you should turn it off if your pulling anything cause o/d is not designed for power, its just there to keep momentum with a low engine rpm. anyhow i pulled a 3500# blazer on a 2000# trailer the other day. and it did fine. even up steep, steep, steep azz hills my 93 cc 4x4 5.2 didnt slow down.
