Message: I just bought a 98 w/ 318 V8 2 weeks ago. I recently noticed that the tube that comes off the air box and into the fender is missing. I was thinking of replacing the intake since the stock one is missing a part. I was going to look for the FIPK but being a student I can't see paying 250 for one. I recently thought about getting one of those round open element filters like older cars had in the 70's. I know a 14x3 will fit a genII dak but will it fit a genIII? I heard that the TB is too close to the firewall for a larger diameter filter to fit. I'm also concerned about how high the filter can be. Is a 3" filter too tall for the hood to close? I found one for 23 bucks at Jegs:
