I know electronics could be an

will work on the 318? Parts of
concern are flywheel,pressure

Message: Randy--- The 5.2 and 3.9 are balanced the same and you should be able to use the same flywheel etc etc on both. The 5.9 would be different as it is externally balanced. Electronics and wiring are going to be an issue. You would need a computer and wiring for the 5.2 from a donor truck. The other way to do it would be to convert it to run a carb.

Message: I have a 94 Dakota 5.2 with a blown AT. I am
planning on converting to 5 Speed Manual. I
have an AX15 5 Speed out of a 94 Dakota with a
3.9 (the 3.9 Bell Housing fits the 5.2 - 318).
1. Will the stock 318 pilate bushing fit the
pilate shaft of an AX15 (3.9 engine's stock
tranny)?
2. Will the stock pressure plate (bolt pattern)
for the AX15 (3.9) fit the bolt pattern for the
Stock 318 flywheel? I have to buy a flywheel I
am assuming I should get teh 318 flywheel but
don't know if it is any different than the 3.9
flywheel.
3. If I have to use the stock 318 pressure
plate is there a specific (size) clutch plate t
ue that fits the splines on the AX15 shaft?
I see the AX15 bell housing for the 3.9 being
marketed all over ebay as a Jeep 5.2 AT to
manual conversion so I'm guessing this is not
all that unusual a swap.

Message: Don't use the AX15. Find an NV 3500 or 3500HD. Both were
used behind the 3.9 and 5.2 and it will outlast the AX15. The
AX15 was only designed for the 3.9 I believe.

Message: So just to clarify for a few posters to do the swap from 3.9 to
5.2 you need the flex plate wiring harness and Pcm the flex
plate has 8 window for the cps to read if you are 92 and up
you have efi 92 and down was Tbi the 42rh tranny was
common for the 3.9 but in 95 both the 3.9 and the 5.2 used the
42rh tranny most other 5.2 used the 46rh tranny after 96 they
switched to 46re tranny witch was electronically controlled as
arose during to previous hydronic controlled

Message: So I've been reading thru here. Seen a lot of things and have
some things answered.
My question is.... My 93 Dakota 3.9L 5speed. I'm pulling a 5.2
out of 97 ram, and ecu out of a van with 5.2 but the correct
harness plug in. Now with that being said will I need to worry
about that ecu trying to get signal from the auto trans that no
longer exist or no?
Another question is souls I pull the harness from the van or
find the wiring diagram and find the way to connect my 2
missing injectors into my 3.9l? Or cut connectors with my van
ecu and then soder in all the wires if they match and when im
left with the injector wires left I'll know where to finish up. Bad
idea.??? Thank you for your help

Message: OK did this swap in my 1992 dodge dakota 5.2 l a little difrent my 46rh blew up so i pulled and swaped for the ax15 i know its not the strongest but it was cheap same price as a rebuild kit for my 46rh lol my problem is i cant get fuel sync done right backfires cazily at 2,000rpm and surges back and forth. so i was wondering if the flex plate ports are in a diffrent position than the fly wheel ports. i know how to fuel sync the 1992 is tdc to v8 mark back prob dist tell 0v to 10v transition and tighten dist down. so if the ports are off would it make the fuel sync useless and you would just have to do it by feel
