Subject: 5W-30, or 10W-30 in 4.7? IP: Logged
Message: Im switching to synthetic, and was just looking at mobil's website to find out where to get a filter cause I havnt been able to find one around here. I was reading up on the oil itself, and am questioning it now. They say:
Mobil 1 Tri-Synthetic Formula 5W-30 helps to ensure cold-weather start-ups. Its synthetic form keeps the oil flowing even at 50 degrees below zero, providing unmatched performance.
Mobil 1 Tri-Synthetic Formula 10W-30 offers optimal protection for any engine in extreme temperatures. Its fully synthetic formula keeps protecting from 475 degrees above zero to 45 degrees below.
Mobil 1 Tri-Synthetic Formula 15W-50 provides superior high-temperature protection for high-performance cars. It keeps protecting your engine and other parts, guarding against wear during extreme acceleration.
I know that Dodge Recomends using the 5W-30 in the 4.7, but looking at these, im not sure! I live in CT, so its cold in the winter, and hot in the summer, so the temperature varies. Plus I have a lead foot and like to race the ricers. Along with chirping the tires. So, I am wondering which one to use. If aynone has any suggestions, id appreciate it! thanks a lot!

Message: I run 5w30 in the winter, and in summer time i use the 10w30 wt. either Wt, is fine. the owners manual says 5w30 wt for optimal fuel mileage.....but i dont think that 5 vs 10 is any big deal.

Message: Nicholas, I live in CT also. I run 10w30 in my truck. Castrol GTX now, and probably Royal Purple starting at 7,000 miles.
