Message: Ok, is it really a plastic intake man. on my Dakota? I have a 2001 4.7 Dakota. Is this common now-a-days? Are you guys swapping these out for aftermarket?

Message: It's a composite intake and there are no aftermarket intakes for these engines that I know of. I did swap in a 2004 intake in place of my 2000. It requires replacing the PCV system from the oil filler housing to the back of the intake, you need a new style IAT sensor and a T-fitting for the vacuum lines because there are only 2 fitting on the 2004 and 3 on my 2000. Only noticeable improvement was smoother operation at higher rpm. No loss of bottom end torque.

Exactly what TECH said... Same type of manifold on my dad's 2001 silverado and my 00 dak.. (6.0L), so dodge isn't the only automaker doing it.. I think it's actually some kind of composite (graphite??) it dosen't look like plain plastic.. I can shine my intake up with ArmorAll though :-)

Message: i am thinking most manufacturers are using them by now on V6/v8 engines. my wifes '99 Gran Prix had one so they've been around for a while.

Message: The first vehicle I saw with a plastic/composite intake was when the Neon's first came out. 1995-ish?
But after you realize HOW MUCH HEAT it DOESN'T conduct, you will apreciate the plastic over aluminum any day.
I'd like to make my own DUAL RUNNER intake for my Dak. Maybe even with a dual barel TB of some sort. But I'd like to figure a way to make it out of plastic somehow.
On KRC, their home brew one looks to be aluminum all welded together. That's on their 450HP 4.7
At least on these engines there is NO hot oil heating it up in the valley pan like a 5.2/5.9 nor the WATER going through it. That COULD be some of the 4.7's secret right there besides the better flowing heads.
