Subject: Optimal Idle IP: Logged
Message: I have an 03 Dakota 4X4 QC, my truck idles at 500rpms after warm up with the a/c off. This seems low to me. What should the stock setting be and how do i adjust it? thanks.

Message: To quote the Factory Service Manual:
"All idle speed functions are controlled by the PCM."
It's a driveability issue, and the only way to fix it, I'm afraid, is to visit your local Dodge or Jeep service center, where they have the right tools.
If you have some warranty left, use it.

Message: While idle speed is normally controled by the PCM, there is a base setting determined by the adjustment of a screw stop on the throttle blade pivot. By all means use your warranty; but if they say everything with the PCM and any other possible cause is as it should be, you can adjust it there.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Message: My Dakota idles just a hair over 500rpm with either the stock or the Superchips program. I like a real low idle. My Durango is probably at the same speed - I'll pay attention the next time I drive it. Both are the 4.7.
There's no problem here...

Message: I imagine the low idle has something to do with emissions, lower RPM's at idle means less gas burned while the truck is sitting in the driveway warming up, stopped in the drive through picking up a burger or inching along in stop-n-go traffic.

Message: Mine idles at 600rpm.
I`d preffer to idle at 500 if it was ease to achieve, like carburated sistems.
Usually, bigger engines tolerate lower idles much better than 4 cyl ones.
I have a 5 sp manual.
